Which is better: a no-salt water softener or a salt water softener?

Both have pros and cons. Salt-free systems require no salt refills and can reduce scale, but they do not remove hardness minerals. Salt water softeners eliminate hardness minerals entirely, preventing scale buildup, protecting appliances, improving skin and hair, and reducing soap and detergent use. For slightly hard water, a salt-free system may suffice. For most homes, a traditional salt-based softener is the better option.
