A water softener is a system used to remove hardness minerals (calcium and magnesium) from hard water. Hard water contains dissolved minerals measured in grains per gallon (gpg). Soft water has less than 1 gpg. Hard water can cause dry skin, dull hair, scale buildup in pipes, stains on dishes, and other household problems. A water softener helps reduce or eliminate these issues.
