Debunking Myths About Water Quality and Health

By Quality Water Northwest

Water is essential to life. Yet, there are countless myths surrounding water quality and its impact on health. These misconceptions can lead to confusion and, in some cases, poor decisions about the water we use every day. At Quality Water Northwest, we believe knowledge is key to making informed choices. That’s why we’re addressing some of the most common myths about water quality and separating fact from fiction.

Myth #1: Tap Water Is Always Unsafe

It’s easy to assume that all tap water is riddled with contaminants, but that’s not always true. Across the United States, municipal water systems comply with strict regulations set by agencies like the EPA. However, while many areas receive high-quality tap water, there are regions where aging infrastructure or environmental factors can introduce issues. The key is to test your water to know its quality, rather than relying on assumptions.

Myth #2: Bottled Water Is Better Than Tap Water

Many believe that bottled water is inherently superior to tap water, but studies often show this is not the case. Bottled water is subject to quality standards similar to tap water, and in some cases, it’s simply treated tap water. Additionally, buying bottled water contributes to plastic waste and can be significantly more expensive. If you’re concerned about tap water, investing in a reliable filtration system can be a more cost-effective and sustainable solution.

Myth #3: Clear Water Equals Clean Water

Just because your water looks clear doesn’t mean it’s free of contaminants. Some harmful substances, such as lead, bacteria, or even heavy metals, can be present without any visible signs. Likewise, murky water isn’t always a cause for alarm; sediment or mineral particles can affect appearance without posing any health risks. Regular testing is the most reliable way to determine water quality.

Myth #4: Soft Water Is Bad for Your Health

Soft water tends to have lower levels of calcium and magnesium, which some fear may contribute to mineral deficiencies. However, the amounts of these minerals in hard water are negligible compared to what you get from a balanced diet. Soft water, on the other hand, provides many benefits like improving the efficiency of appliances and reducing wear and tear on plumbing systems.

Myth #5: Water Quality Stays Consistent Over Time

Even if your water system tests perfectly today, that doesn’t guarantee it’ll stay that way. Seasonal changes, construction in your area, or developments in your municipal water system can alter your water quality. Regular checks and maintenance of your home water systems ensure that you’re prepared for unexpected changes.

Stay Confident About Your Water

Understanding the truth about water quality is the first step to making sound choices for your home and family. Taking proactive measures, such as learning about your local water system or using filtration solutions tailored to your specific needs, can make all the difference.

"I highly recommend them."

Our lake house ran lake water throughout the house. When we decided to upgrade to a fresh water system we did our research and chose Quality Water Northwest for a filtered water system. As a business owner, I am always watching for excellent customer service and expectations met. Quality Water Northwest gets my 5 stars. Everything they installed was done right. Their staff was very responsive with questions and small adjustments once we were up and running. I waited to be sure we were happy before writing a review. We've been enjoying "Quality Water" for a year now. I work with so many companies. Few stand out as they do. These folks are on my top shelf. Very refreshing. I highly recommend them.

"A true blessing!"

Many years of ongoing problems with my "other" unit. I called Quality and found INTEGRITY to be the main focus of this OUTSTANDING company. The owner personally arrived, provided an outstanding review of our needs, and a "no nonsense" price. The installer was amazing! and staff are excellent. I can't recommend this outstanding company highly enough!!! Needless to say the Kinetico softener is trouble free and a true blessing over our previous junkola equipment.

"Everyone was wonderful and so helpful."

Absolutely wonderful customer service. We discovered Coliform Bacteria in our well water, they were able to come and inspect things, then install a UV light purifier very quickly and at a very reasonable price. I really, really appreciate them! Everyone I met was wonderful and so helpful, especially Shay! Thank you Quality Water Northwest!

"Great company!"

Great company! I purchased an iron filter and water softener. Bret met with me on site during construction, and installation went smoothly. I really appreciated how they helped me when I had questions shortly after moving in.
- Mark

"5 stars! Thank you!"

They did a lot of work and did a good job. The serviceman who came and troubleshot problems was incredibly knowledgeable and experienced and a generally great guy. If you live out in the boonies like me I can not recommend them enough.

"Don't hesitate to choose Quality Water Northwest"

We had a Kinetico softener and reverse osmosis drinking water system installed in 2012. We have been extremely pleased with the system as well as the customer service provided by Quality Water Northwest. The entire system, installed with some planning into our 1960’s built home, was well worth the investment. The drinking water is delicious and the RO system has worked flawlessly. A bonus is that appliances requiring water never need to be de-scaled or have additional filtration. We also love the softened water. If we should move in the future, we will not hesitate to choose Kinetico products and Quality Water Northwest.
- Carol

"Timely, friendly, and knowledgeable!"

Tech arrived when promised. He was friendly, knowledgeable and discussed several options.
